The Wood 'N' Racket Farm
has two Har-Tru or 'American Clay' Tennis
Courts, considered by tennis players to be the most 'player
friendly' surface. This surface of crushed limestone is
mined and processed in Virginia by Lee Tennis, the tennis division
of Luck Stone, which is headquartered in Goochland, VA.
The
compactability of the Har-Tru material allows for a firm surface
for a truer bounce of the ball, yet allows a player to slide,
avoiding the sudden stop which is so brutal on the body's joints.
The
rough, granular Har-Tru material causes the Tennis ball to 'grab',
which slows the ball and makes for a more 'hittable' shot
resulting in better stroke execution. A
CNN Health Report confirms that clay is softer
and easier on the body.
The Har-Tru 'Clay'
Court is the preferred surface of teaching Pros worldwide.
The green crushed Limestone does not stain clothes like the
Red-Clay of Europe.
The
Har-tru 'Clay' courts are open April through December and are
very 'player friendly'. A clay court is the best place to
hone one's game as evidenced by the fact that: of the 93 players
ranked in the top 10 in the world of men's tennis in the last 33
years, 82 grew up playing on clay!
Construction of two additional
clay courts is underway.
